Do you need to update your qualification?

If you already hold the 18th Edition qualification, you won’t need to retake the full course. However, it’s essential to update your knowledge in line with Amendment 4 to ensure you remain compliant with the latest wiring regulations.

Keeping your knowledge up to date helps demonstrate:

  • Ongoing professional competence
  • Safe and compliant working practices
  • Awareness of current installation methods
  • Compliance with regulations such as EAWR 1989

If you haven’t yet achieved your 18th Edition qualification, it remains a fundamental requirement for anyone working on electrical installations so it’s important not to delay getting certified.

When do electricians need to comply? 

Amendment 4 comes into effect from 15 April 2026. Following a six month transition period, the previous edition will be withdrawn, making this the new standard for compliance.

This applies to:

  • New low voltage installations
  • Additions and alterations
  • Periodic inspection and testing

Is Amendment 4 a full new edition?

No. It is an amendment to the 18th Edition, not the 19th Edition.

Do I need new training for Amendment 4?

If you already hold the 18th Edition qualification, a CPD refresher is recommended.
